Apparently I am living in an area that is classified as E-unengaged and populated by Low technologists. When I read about the e-Society project it sounded like a really good idea. If we are to combat digital exclusion then we need to know where the problems exist.
However, I am angry about the photographs being used to illustrate the different groups.
A picture of a fat balding bloke in vest for e-unengaged? What sort of stereotypical nonsense is that? And surprise, surprise E-experts is illustrated with attractive young woman (next to a Palm tree!) using a mobile and a laptop.
You know, I thought the same when I saw the report. Those photographs denigrate the integrity of the report if you ask me. did you contact the authors with your reaction?
As a fat, balding bloke who does happen to be into all this shit, I was appalled by the imagery. Do you know where the e-expert girl hangs out? All the e-experts I talk to look like me.
And that includes the girls.
As the author of e-luv, a book on internet romances, I can confirm that the picture shown is pretty close to what I look like. When I sent one to the book's PR person, she strangely didn't use it.
