European Communication Monitor 2012

The European Communication Monitor 2012 has just been published. It is the largest transnational survey on strategic communication worldwide and almost 2,200 professionals from 42 countries participated. I haven’t had time to study it in-depth yet (the full report weighs in at 121 pages), as it is important to understand that this isn’t some light-weight [...]

Working from home and gorging on cheese from the fridge

After a year working from home again, and occasionally enjoying cheese and biscuits for lunch, I thought I’d share some thoughts about the experience.  Both myself and Karen my wife work mainly from home. I’m a PR trainer and consultant, specialising in digital corporate communications, online PR and digital public affairs while Karen is a [...]

Commschat on CIPR Wikipedia guidance

I missed last night’s #commschat with Philip Sheldrake on the Wikipedia guidance that was published by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) last week. I think the CIPR guidance is a great first step and is currently the best way for public relations professionals to engage with Wikipedia on behalf of clients and employers. [...]

PR practitioners should not directly edit Wikipedia according to new CIPR guidance

I wouldn’t normally publish a news release verbatim, but this is important and I’m pushed for time this week! Disclaimer: I’m a founder member of the CIPR Social Media panel that created the new Wikipedia guidance and made a few small suggestions of my own to its development. Public relations practitioners should not directly edit [...]

Jimmy Carr shows why it is time to publish everyone’s tax returns

A few months ago, during the furore about the tax returns of the London mayor candidates, I published a blog post saying that it’s time to publish everyone’s tax return. The current furore about the tax affairs of Jimmy Carr and Gary Barlow et al provides yet more evidence about why this would be the [...]

NeverSeconds shows why PR needs to be respected

Lots of buzz about #neverseconds and almost universal ridicule of Argyll and Bute Council’s statement (see Update Three below as the council has now unethically tried to hide its incompetence) in response. The story is that nine-year old Martha Payne has been blogging photographs of her school meals and writing about what is wrong with the meals. [...]
